These are the scope and requirements for the trainors training on April at the Federation Congress in Negros


This certification is for those persons instructing and organizing The Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) as recognized by the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines (MFPI)
1.1 The BMC INSTRUCTOR should have no less than ONE (1) YEAR membership to a Federation affiliated club and at least one year of wilderness experience
1.2 The BMC INSTRUCTOR must have undergone their Basic Mountaineering Course training from a Federation affiliated club or accredited Instructor
1.3 The BMC INSTRUCTOR must hold a current FIRST AID CERTIFICATE issued within the last two years
The BMC Instructor is expected to be proficient in the following
2.1 The BMC INSTRUCTOR should be proficient in the LEAVE NO TRACE principle
2.2 Demonstrate an ability to impart knowledge to students on the flora, fauna, geology and history of a given area
2.3 Understand the significance of areas to local indigenous people and demonstrate an awareness and sensitivity to their culture
2.4 Describe the major organizations involved in the use wilderness areas
3.1 Demonstrate the importance of physical fitness and preparedness towards the activity
3.2 Produce an overall plan and an emergency plan for a given trip
3.3 Identify aims, objectives and define purpose of a given trip
3.4 Identify and organize the structure of group on a given activity
3.5.1 Demonstrate knowledge of the various equipment used commonly in the outdoors. This includes the type, characteristics, limitations, cost, care, maintenance and storage of these equipments.
3.5.2 Demonstrate the proper use and care of personal equipment and the appropriate gears for different types of activities
3.5.3 Demonstrate the usage and purpose of equipment that are meant for the whole group during an activity
3.6 Describe the weather pattern in a given area and obtaining weather information for a given trip
4.1 Demonstrate knowledge in appropriate trekking skills and movement within the wilderness area
4.2 Select an appropriate route and identification of its risks and hazards
4.3 Demonstrate knowledge on trail regulations in a given area
4.4 Selection of campsites and identifying natural hazards
4.5 Demonstrate the advantage/disadvantage of different camp shelters. Show the proper use and maintenance of such shelters
4.6 Describe the organization required for group cooking. Lighting an emergency fire in case of adverse conditions and showing fire safety methods
4.7 Describe proper methods of handling/preparation of food plus fuel requirements for a given trip
4.8 Describe toilet regime for a given wilderness area
5.1.1 Demonstrate knowledge in the use of map and compass
5.1.2 Describe route and estimation of distance for a given trip
5.1.3 Determine present position on a given map and locate a specified point on the map
5.1.4 Navigate across a terrain using a map
5.1.5 Travel to a location using a compass
5.1.6 Plan a route using a map and compass
7.1 Demonstrate knowledge in the importance of the climbing rope and various types of climbing ropes
7.2 Show the appropriate use for each type of climbing rope and the proper care/maintenances and storage for them
7.3 Demonstrate knowledge in the various types of knots and the proper use for each type ( square, fisherman, double fisherman, sheet bend, clove hitch, two-half hitch, taut line, timber hitch, bowline, figure-or-eight are the minimum)
8.1 Describe when and when not to cross a river
8.2 Demonstrate techniques used in crossing a waterway, for an individual and a group in various numbers
8.3 Identify hazards, methods and best areas in crossing a waterway
8.4 Demonstrate proper emergency procedures and recovery method for a given waterway
9.1 Prepare a lesson plan and deliver the BMC to a given audience
9.2 Demonstrate ability to seize teachable moments and impart awareness to subject
9.3 Select and prepare venue, equipment as required
9.4 Present a given subject that includes an introduction, uses appropriate voice, language, body language, visual aids and practical demonstrations
9.5 Demonstrate a wide knowledge and skill in a given subject
10.1 Demonstrate an effective group briefing and debriefing
10.2 Demonstrate the ability to adjust plans when the environment dictates
10.3 Demonstrate the concepts and principles of risk during a given trip
10.4 Describe procedures taken in an event of an emergency
10.5 Describe the prevention, symptoms and remedies for hypothermia, sunstroke, heat exhaustion, dehydration, blisters and allergies
10.6 Describe how the MFPI Search and Rescue system works
